Continuing the JAZZ + PLUS + series—an evening of great local music on the FIRST SATURDAY OF EVERY MONTH AT THE ARTS BLOCK. They will present a JJJ set of different material each month, along with a set of wonderful music of a completely different genre.
Juke Joint Jazz presents Eastern Standard Time--featuring trombonist Ed Byrne & 9 string guitarist Jonny Johansson playing a 21st century chamber jazz performance. Byrne, a world-class jazz trombonist and composer, has worked with many of the world's finest musicians, including Chet Baker, Herbie Hancock, Charles Mingus and Buddy Rich. He is accompanied by Mike Caruk - trumpet, Johnny Johansson-9 string and Mark Dunlap - double bass.

Juke Joint Jazz plays original, hard-driving arrangements of the classic jazz repertoire. Featuring several accomplished soloists, with influences ranging from Miles Davis to the Grateful Dead, from Monk to Funk, the band plays an eclectic mix of works from an international cast of composers. Ken Forfia—piano/organ; David Kisala—saxophone; Michael Levine—guitar; Mark Dunlap—bass and Chris Hamlen—drums. The Joint recently opened the 2013 Northampton Jazz Festival at The Iron Horse in Northampton, and just released their new CD "Live At The Arts Block" recorded this past summer.
All musicians will jam for at least a half hour at the end of the performance, performing jazz standards and improvisation!
